High speed machining
High speed machining has put forward a series of new requirements for cutting tools. Research shows that when high speed cutting, mainly caused by the tool damage is in the cutting force and cutting temperature effect due to mechanical friction, chemical bonding, wear, chipping, breakage and plastic deformation caused by wear and breakage. Therefore, the most important performance requirements for high speed cutting tool materials are heat resistance, wear resistance, chemical stability, thermal shock resistance, and anti fracture performance. Ceramic, CBN, PCD, metal ceramic and other tool materials have good heat resistance and wear resistance, when its toughness is improved, it is very suitable for high speed cutting. The development of advanced coating technology has further improved the performance of the material. At present, the development of new coating materials and coating technology is in the ascendant, which indicates that the coated tools will have great development potential and wide application prospect in the field of high speed cutting. This paper reviewed the wear mechanism of high speed machining of ceramic tool, cubic boron nitride cutting tools, diamond tools, metal ceramic tool and coated tool, the tool wear form and wear life are analyzed, these studies will be beneficial to the actual production and processing in the rational use of high-speed cutting tools and wear control.
Wear behavior of high speed cutting tools
High speed cutting tool, the main wear form for flank wear, micro chipping, boundary wear, flaking, flank crater wear, plastic deformation etc..
The flank wear is one of the most frequent wear forms of high speed cutting tools. Because of the increase of the width of the flank wear zone, the cutting performance of the cutting tool will be lost, and the VB value of the uniform wear zone width on the flank of the cutting tool is used as the tool wear limit.
Micro chipping is a small gap in the cutting edge on, often occurs in intermittent high speed cutting, with good toughness of tool materials, reduce the amount of feed, changing the tool main angle to increase the stability and other measures, can reduce the probability of occurrence of micro chipping blade. As long as the size of the micro cutting edge of the cutter is controlled within the wear limit, the tool can continue to be cut.
